His Majesty The King graced the Passing Out Parade ceremony of the Gyalsung Training 2026 Batch Cohort 1 at Gyalsung Academy Gyalpozhing, Mongar.

Addressing Gyalsups across all four Academies – Pemathang, Khotokha, and Jamtsholing – from Gyalpozhing, His Majesty said that Gyalsung is proof that Bhutan is thinking seriously about its future and building toward it with purpose. The approach, His Majesty said, is straightforward: define clearly what you want to achieve, refine the plan with urgency and understanding, and implement with precision.

“We are laying the foundations of Bhutan’s future,” His Majesty said.

His Majesty said that to make Bhutan strong, three things are needed: strong people, a living culture, and a thriving economy.

Invoking the image of a beehive, His Majesty said that Bhutan, with its Desuups, Gyalsups, and Pelsups working as one, becomes “unified, resilient, and capable of achieving whatever we set our minds to.” National service, His Majesty said, is a rite of passage, a shared experience, and a social equalizer that gives the nation common ground and a common future.

His Majesty thanked the armed forces for their service in making Gyalsung possible, and the people of Bhutan, whose full support made Gyalsung the success it is today.

His Majesty also extended deepest gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the Government and people of India, whose timely and unwavering support ensured all five training centres were built despite the pandemic.

Her Majesty Gyalyum Tseyring Pem Wangchuck graced the ceremony at Gyalsung Academy Khotokha. The Prime Minister, Dasho Tshering Tobgay and Chief Justice Norbu Tshering attended the parades at Pemathang and Jamtsholing, respectively. The ceremony was also attended by Lopens of the Zhung Dratshang, Cabinet Ministers, Armed Forces officers, senior government officials, and foreign dignitaries. Families and friends of Gyalsups also joined in the celebration of this significant occasion.

The Passing Out Parade marks the culmination of rigorous training and represents a significant rite of passage, transforming 1,537 young men and women into Gyalsups. The current cohort also includes 44 young Bhutanese from overseas who came to undergo Gyalsung Training. With the passing out of this cohort, the total number of Gyalsups now stands at 9,860.

Marching off the parade grounds, these young Gyalsups leave their academies with the discipline, clarity, and unwavering loyalty and readiness to serve the Tsawa-Sum.

The ceremony marks the realization of the enduring vision of His Majesty The King to nurture generations of capable, resilient, and service-oriented youth dedicated to the security and sovereignty of the nation.
