In May 2024, Gyalsung Headquarters and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MoAL) formalized a partnership to launch the Food Security Skilling (FSS) Program, a cornerstone of the Gyalsung National Service designed to bolster Bhutan’s self-reliance. Under this five-year agreement, the MoAL will spearhead curriculum development and instructor training in modern agricultural technologies, while the Gyalsung Headquarters manages the infrastructure and budgeting for specialized skilling farms like the one at Jamtsholing. Beyond training, the partnership integrates food security into the national “social contract” by deploying Gyalsups and reservists to active duty in community agricultural projects and disaster response. This collaborative “hive strategy” ensures that Bhutan’s youth are equipped with the discipline and technical expertise to secure the nation’s food supply, working toward a sustainable and resilient society.
